This is one in a series of blog posts describing new features of Isode’s R14.6 release, scheduled for March 2010. You can see all posts relating to R14.6 by clicking this link.

We have been working for several years to bring all M-Switch management into MConsole, and this goal has been met in R14.6 with completion of the Switch Configuration view. This is a significant management improvement for M-Switch users.

Switch Configuration view replaces the EMMA System view of previous releases. Some screens will be familiar to EMMA users, as we’ve tried to retain a similar UI where it makes sense.

It also makes it possible for us to drop QuickConfig, as the new Wizard system in conjunction with other Isode tools allows straightforward configuration setup without the need to have a special demo tool that leads to “dead end” configurations.

This blog post includes a few screenshots to give a quick overview of the capabilities of MConsole Switch Configuration View.

Configuration Management

M-Switch configuration is stored in the directory, which is accessed by an Isode Bind Profile, shared with Sodium and other Isode GUIs that access the directory. Multiple configurations can be managed from MConsole.

Wizards

There is a Wizard to help set up a new configuration and to modify existing ones, making it easy to set up configurations for a range of different purposes.  They are designed to be easy to set up simple configurations, while not constraining complex ones.

Top level view of an SMTP MTA Configuration

This is the first of three views of completed configurations after the setup Wizard has been run. The top row shows the tabs leading to different views appropriate to an SMTP configuration.  The base set of channels can be seen, and tabs for detailed MTA configuration.  The alert screen warns of some setup errors.
